Barnardo’s Children First Service

Barnardo’s Children First Service delivers a range of services which are designed to support disabled children (up to the age of 18) and their families. The service works in partnership with families of disabled children and other agencies to promote the rights of children to have access to services, and provide practical support to families.

There are three elements to Children First Service:

  1. Special support service which aims to enable children with complex health needs and/or challenging behaviours to be cared for in a home environment and lead as near normal a life as is possible.
  2. New development work which aims to promote the rights of disabled children so they may be included in society, through creating opportunities for disabled children, to access a range of services and promote inclusion in mainstream and specialist services.
