Cornerstone is a family support and children’s rights service offering creative and flexible packages of support in a variety of settings across Calderdale.
Work with young people
Individual work with young people aged 10-16 years communicating early signs of emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.
Typical referrals may include children and young people who are:
- being bullied or are bullies
- expressing difficulty in managing anger/aggression
- engaging in anti social/risky behaviour
- lacking confidence/poor self esteem
- experiencing relationship difficulties with family members or peers.
Group sessions for young people in venues across Calderdale focussing on:
- sexual health (including baby simulators and condom distribution)
- transition to high school, emotional resilience (friends/warm fuzzy) programmes
- anti bullying workshops
- junior 'munch bunch' sessions encouraging healthy eating and safety in the home.
Work with parents
Formal 12 week programmes of support for parents of young people aged 10-16 years held at venues across Calderdale. Self and agency referrals including parents on orders and contracts for non-school attendance.
Informal parent support groups held at venues across Calderdale incorporating health, parenting and child safety workshops, information and advice on a group and individual basis.
Courses for parents and carers aimed at increasing confidence and skills to talk to children about sex and relationships.
Family centre
A well-equipped child-focussed family centre in Elland offering universally accessible, non stigmatising services, free at the point of need. Centre available for use by local community groups and partner agencies.
