Sam's story
Sam was seventeen and pregnant when she approached Barnardo’s. Sam would like to tell you her story.
Sam says:
My parents were very disappointed in me, which made it very hard for me. I knew I had to try my best to sort my life out but I didn’t know where to start.
Within a few weeks of speaking to someone at Barnardo’s I was offered a flat. I found it very hard with a new baby and a new home, the bills kept coming and I found it very stressful, but I knew my Support Worker would help me, even if I just needed a friendly chat I knew she would be there for me.
I am now 18 with a beautiful daughter and a brilliant home. I am really happy with my life. I get on with my parents and they are very proud of me. I go to a mother and toddler group run by Barnardo’s which helps me meet young parents, we really enjoy it and I want to thank Barnardo's.
Barnardo’s helps the most vulnerable children and young people transform their lives and fulfil their potential. Unlike Sam many of them have had difficult childhoods themselves and do not have family to support them.
We help young people with parenting skills and independent living skills, such as budgeting and managing their first home. We organise groups to reduce social isolation and give emotional support. We encourage young people to continue with their education and career plans.
