Calum's Story

My name is Calum and I am 17 years old.

Before I came to Barnardo’s I had just dropped out of college and I was having a really difficult time. I just thought everything was pointless.

At the beginning I wasn’t too keen to start the Elev8 project but after I met the ‘crew’ they were really friendly and funny. Everyone at Barnardo’s is really approachable and kind.

Some of the things we did on the course I enjoyed, such as orienteering. It was a right trek but it was good. I also had a good time ice skating at Deeside.

The interview skills session was quite useful and although I wasn’t a big fan of the mock interview I think it was definitely helpful. It has given me some idea of what to expect in the future.

The most beneficial part for me was my confidence has grown and that means a lot to me. I would highly recommend Elev8 to anyone who needed it.

Calum joined the Options Project in February 2011. He completed our group programme and is currently volunteering with Barnardo’s Retail. Calum has applied for a traineeship to start in September 2011.
