Almost all 400 services have a health outcome.

At Barnardo’s, physical and mental health issues are often dealt with at the heart of our services. An innovative and child-centred approach informs all our health solutions.

We have:

  • 400 services, almost all of which are working towards health outcomes
  • A successful and long-standing history ofworking with health professionals.
  • 24 specialist health services
  • Strong relationships with the Department of Health to ensure the voices of the most vulnerable children and young people are heard during health reforms.
  • 150 years experience of working with and supporting children and young people with health needs
  • Experience of working with GP commissioning groups, Primary Care Trusts and Child and Adolescent Mental Health groups.

Our health provision covers three key areas and a range of issues:

  • Healthy body: Sexual health, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, physical abuse.
  • Healthy mind: Child and adolescent mental health, bereavement support, risky behaviour, working with young carers [link to Young Carers case study].
  • Family health: Whole family support, short break care for disabled children, working in communities, working with GPs, health visitors and midwives
