Rothiemurchus
Rothiemurchus Forest is one of the largest and most important remnants of the natural Caledonian Forest which once covered most of Scotland. Surrounding the iconic Loch an Eilein, the privately owned forest is a natural habitat for a great diversity of plants and animals, with over 173 bird species including the reclusive capercaillie and 27 mammal species including the secretive pine martin. Today, Rothiemurchus has successfully blended conservation with welcoming visitors and providing residents with a place to live and work by sensitive management for both nature and people.
