How much does it cost to take part in the Cairngorm Challenge?
If you sign up before 30 April, you will be asked to pay a £50 non-refundable registration fee. If you sign up after 30 April, you will be asked to pay a £60 non-refundable registration fee. In addition to this, you will be required to raise a minimum of £400 in sponsorship. When you join the Cairngorm Challenge as a team, please note that prices are per person, so as a team of four, you will be asked to raise £1600 sponsorship.
What happens if I do not reach the minimum sponsorship target?
When you sign up to the Cairngorm Challenge, you will be asked to complete a registration form. On this form, you will sign to say that you understand you will be committing to paying the registration fee, and to raising the minimum sponsorship amount. If you fall short of the £400 individual sponsorship amount, we will work with you to try to establish a means of you paying the money in to us - perhaps in instalments over time. The sponsorship is set at a specific amount, and if you do not raise the money we will ask you to pay it from your own pocket.
We will be working with you from the minute you sign up to ensure that you are able to raise the required amount, and we encourage all participants to contact us as soon as possible if they are worried about reaching their target.
It is important that you consider the commitment to Barnardo's before you register for the Cairngorm Challenge. If you cannot meet the minimum sponsorship level, please do not sign up for the event.
Is Gift Aid included in my sponsorship target?
Barnardo's policy, like that of many other charities, is that Gift Aid is not included in minimum sponsorship targets.
Can I fundraise online?
Absolutely - online fundraising is a fantastic way for you to collect sponsorship from your friends, family and colleagues - particularly those you don't see every day. From your donors' point of view, it is a quick, easy and secure method of donating. You can set up your own online fundraising page here.
Can we fundraise jointly as a team?
Yes absolutely - it can make your fundraising target easier to meet if you fundraise together. Just remember that the sponsorship requirement is £400 per person, so if four of you fundraise together, you need to raise £1600.
Can I hold a street collection to raise some money?
Street collections are a great way to raise money, but you will need permission from the person who owns the land before your collection can take place.
If you want to collect on your local high street, you will need to contact your council.
If you want to collect at the entrance of your local supermarket, it might be the supermarket itself which owns the land, in which case you will need their permission. You will definitely need the permission of the supermarket if you want to do some bag packing inside the store, in exhange for donations.
You will also need to have a copy of a permission letter from Barnardo's for the collection to take place.
If you do decide to organise a street collection, contact us first so we can advise you and ensure it does not cause any conflicts with collections which are already being organised.
Can I hold a raffle to raise some money?
Raffles can be a great way of raising additional money for the Cairngorm Challenge. However, there are some strict rules governing how they can be run.
The simplest way to hold a raffle within the rules is to hold it alongside another event - a pub quiz, for example. You will need to sell tickets during your event, and the raffle has to be drawn and prizes given out on the same night. If you do a raffle this way, you won't need a licence.
It is best to check with us first before you run a raffle, so do contact us.
I have collected in my sponsorship money and have some cash and cheques. How can I pay everything in?
Cheques should be made payable to Barnardo's, and can be sent to us at:
Cairngorm Challenge
Barnardo's Scotland
235 Corstorphine Road
Edinburgh EH12 7AR
If you have cash, please bank it and send us a cheque from your account.
When you send money in to us, please ensure that you write your name and 'Cairngorm Challenge' on the back of each cheque, and if you know your team's name, add that too. This will ensure that money is allocated to your sponsorship total.
