Fundraising for the Cairngorm Challenge
Thank you to the Barnardo's team for all your hard work and support both before, during and after the challenge at the weekend (Selwyn 2011)
By raising sponsorship for your Cairngorm Challenge, you’ll be transforming the lives of vulnerable children in Scotland and the UK.
The team at Barnardo’s will give you fantastic fundraising support along the way, giving you inspiring tips and guides.

Where to start
- First time fundraising? Read our fundraising guide (PDF), perfect for beginners
- Think about who you can ask to sponsor you - family, friends, colleagues and community members - ask the most generous first!
- Why not find out if your employer has a matched giving scheme and will match all or part of what you raise?
Set up an online sponsorship page
- Go to www.virginmoneygiving.com and set up a page. Write a short description of what you are doing and include a picture
- It is the quickest and easiest way to collect donations
- You can contact everyone you know at once and get them to sponsor you in a safe and secure way
- There’s no need to handle the money yourself - it goes directly to Barnardo’s
- Email links to everyone you know and add it to your email signature!
Keep it legal!
- Collecting in any public place or going door to door is illegal without a licence – read our fundraising guidelines (PDF) to find out more
Publicise it!
- Be short, compelling and to the point – tell people how they can help and where their money will go
- Advertise your sponsored run on a social networking site like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter
- Use our press releases (Word doc) to help get your efforts into the press
Collecting donations
- If you use paper sponsorship forms, it’s much easier if you ask your sponsors to pay upfront
- Start your sponsorship forms with your highest donations – seeing this will encourage others to be generous too
- Remember to ask all UK taxpayers to ‘Gift Aid’ their donations – meaning Barnardo’s can can claim back the tax, at no extra cost to the donor! Read more about Gift Aid (PDF)
