Why take part?

If the thrill of completing a real physical challenge alongside your family, friends or colleagues isn't enough, we have plenty of other reasons why you should sign up to the Cairngorm Challenge.
An incredible location
The Cairngorm Challenge takes place in an absolutely stunning part of the UK, and one which has limited access to events of this size, in order to protect the environment as much as possible. So, this is a rare, unique opportunity to hike and bike in this particular area. You can read more about the Cairngorms National Park elsewhere on this site.
A great team challenge
A lot of charity challenge events are aimed at individuals - people run the marathon, skydive, swim the channel, or cycle from London to Paris generally on their own. This challenge gives you the opportunity to complete a challenge as part of a team, either with friends, family or colleagues. The team element is really important, as team members really motivate and encourage each other when the going gets tough.
A new, tougher than ever challenge

Following feedback from past participants, we have now altered the routes so that the Gold route is tougher than ever before, meaning that this is one of the most challenging (and satisfying) hike and bike events around. So, for participants who have already done some hike and bike events, the Gold route should provide the next level up.
A great way to support Barnardo's
The Cairngorm Challenge is, of course, a fundraising event. Money you raise will make a real difference to the lives of children in Scotland and across the UK. You can find out more about Barnardo's work across the UK and in your area on our main website.
If you want to know any more about the event, or you have any questions before you sign up, then you can look at our FAQs, and if your question is not there, then you can contact us and we'll be happy to help.
