How we can help
The service supports young carers and their families through assessment leading to support packages. Support may include signposting or referral to other agencies.
Groups
These focus on help, advice, confidence building and the opportunity for the young people to have fun and support through a shared common experience.
Individual support
Some young carers attending the service request individual support, which may be in response to a specific crisis or difficulty.
Development work
Includes development work in specific geographical areas (e.g. Keighley), work in schools, training of health and social care staff and policy development work.
Issue groups
Time limited issue groups focus on specific issues i.e. mental illness. Provided in direct response to identified need.
Self-esteem groups
The Self esteem group promotes emotional well being and mental health through a combination of creative group work and art. The group provides opportunities for young carers to develop ways of effectively dealing with stressful and difficult situations.
New referral groups
All new referrals are offered the opportunity to attend a time limited group that begins to look at the impact of the caring role and ways of positively addressing this.
Schools work
Intensive input into personal, social, health and economic education (P.S.H.E) lessons and possible development of school based support groups.
Holiday activities
Holiday activities are provided in response to assessed need.
How to access the service
Referrals come from Bradford Social Services Department, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Adult Mental Health Services, Education Welfare Services, schools or self referrals e.g. parents and young people.
