Beyond the Shadows

Barnardo's Beyond the Shadows Project in Belfast was developed in 2001 following recognition by the Eastern Health and Social Services Board that the sexual exploitation of children and young people was – and still is - an issue that needed to be tackled.
Barnardo’s has been working with the issue of child sexual exploitation for over 10 years and recognises the need for all agencies to be pro-active and creative in their attempts to safeguard children and young people from this form of abuse.
We work with children and young people who are being sexually exploited, and those who are at risk. We offer a service to males and females between the ages of 12 and 18 (or 21 years if in receipt of leaving care services). However, we are very willing to listen to adults with similar experiences and help them to access support. We work mainly within the Eastern Health and Social Services Board area but will consider offering services anywhere in Northern Ireland.
This service works in partnership with the Eastern Health and Social Services Board, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), and with a range of other agencies. The Eastern Health and Social Services Board covers North and West Belfast, South and East Belfast, Down Lisburn Trust and Ulster Community Hospital Trust areas.
