New training and consultation services available

The BabyFather Initiative has now launched its new Training and Consultancy Service. It is the culmination of a series of discussions we have held throughout the UK with African Caribbean fathers and social care practitioners.

We have developed a number of products and services that give African Caribbean fathers the opportunity to develop key life and parenting skills, and the chance for workers to increase their understanding and skills to successfully engage with them.

  • Working with African Caribbean Fathers – A Guide for Professionals. This is a practical and accessible booklet workers can reference to assist them in their every day work with African Caribbean fathers.
  • The African Caribbean Fatherhood Program (ACFP), the only one of its kind in the UK, is an accredited parenting program for African Caribbean fathers, offering training in areas like relationships, communication and child development (supported by Parenting UK). This program also has an educational component (supported by Asdan), offering fathers the opportunity to gain evidence toward key/basic skills in reading and writing.
  • The African Caribbean Fatherhood Training Program (ACFtP), is designed to increase the understanding and confidence of professionals who work with African Caribbean fathers, children, young people and families. This course provides practical skills while looking at social policy, legislation and the theory of fatherhood in the African Caribbean community.
  • A bespoke consultative service to assist organisations and groups to develop effective policies and practices for this group of people, classically defined as ‘hard to reach’.

Weekend Fathers

The new book by Patrick Augustus

Weekend Fathers, book by Patrick Augustus

Weekend Fathers by Patrick Augustus is a ‘how to’ book with a twist. Propelled by an intent to inform new fathers and rehabilitate fathers who fall short of the mark, the book borrows the lessons it imparts from the experiences of men who have attended Augustus’ BabyFather Alliance workshops over the past three years.
