Together,
we’re supporting
children like Esmé

Esmé has Rett syndrome, which makes communicating very difficult for her. Barnardo’s ‘Little Breaks’ provide her with support and interaction, and give her family much-needed respite too. Get involved.

Barnardo’s in 2016

We’ve come a long way in 150 years and have helped hundreds of thousands of children. Today, our work is more diverse than ever, because in a world with smart phones and social media, children face new dangers.

What remains steadfast is our promise to children. From respite for young carers and children with disabilities, to expert therapies for the victims of abuse, we are here for children, always.

We’re working to end sexual exploitation for children like Greg*

Greg was just 12 when he met a man online who began to groom him. The man lied about his age, and offered money, drugs and alcohol, pressuring Greg to have sex with other men.

We helped Greg escape his abuse, and gave him the support he needed to recover and move on with his life.

“Barnardo’s made me feel safe. They helped me see it wasn't my fault and probably saved my life.” - Greg

Finding a safe home for vulnerable children

Gail is a dedicated Barnardo’s foster carer. So far, she’s fostered 29 children, giving them a safe place to call home.

“It’s not a nine-to-five job but I can’t imagine doing anything else. I always wanted to work with children, and I feel very strongly about breaking the cycle – keeping them out of care by giving them a loving and stable home.” - Gail

Across the UK, around 9,000 new foster carers are needed. With your support, we can protect vulnerable children, and ensure they have the care they need.
